Staking our Claims

Quick Write:
I strongly believe it's better to have a growth mindset because it keeps you in a positive state of mind. Like Dr. Dweck proved it also increases your learning and you get better grades or just get better at whatever it is. For example, she does an experiment on 7th graders who were doing poorly in math and she put them in workshops. The students that learned about the brain and mindsets did better in math and ended up passing.

Final Reflection:
My claim matters because it allows us to understand a growth mindset and how it effects our daily lives. It gives us the ability to see failure in a different light. I believe this claim is important because it can change the mindset of other people and they out look on failure.

Deconstructing a Mindset Experiment

Quick Write:
I honestly believe that changing your mindset from a fixed to growth mindset can change your grade for the better. I say this because if you failed your going to keep learning to fix your mistake and add to your knowledge; which will show the growth and eventually resulting in better grades. Having a growth mindset will better your grades!

Classwork:
My deconstruction of the Mindset experiment

Reflection:
Yes, I believe that the findings are creditable because the experiment was fair.

Mindset Reflection

Reflection:
When I'm depressed I usely lock myself in the room. I distance my from everyone. I just prefer to be alone. I also noticed that I would eat way more than I regularly do. I keep the fact that I feel depressed to myself, I don't talk about it to nobody. When I feel like I can't hold it in anymore I cry while alone in my room or while taking a shower.
There was a time that I believe depression took over my life. My father passed away, then shortly after my step father passed away. All of this while being in a bad relationship. I felt like I wasn't meant to be happy. Strange thoughts ran through my head every single day. I had nervous break downs, anxiety attacks, I cried my eyes out every chance I got, and on top of it all I wanted to be alone through it all. I can honestly say I was a mess but I never admitted it to myself.
Recently I was told by many friends and family members plus my very own pastor that I've been going through a really deep depression and no matter how hard I tried to hide it someone or many people would notice and bring it to your attention. That's when it hit me, it made me admit to myself, wake up and seek help. This took me over 5 long years and I thank everyone who was there for me and didn't give up on me because I could of done something crazy.
But now looking at the situation with a growth mindset I would have done things differently and much quicker. I would have keep myself occupied, I would have challenged myself a lot more, took many more risk, and keep my family/friends closer when going through things this servere. I would of admitted it to myself when I first started showing signs and then go seek help whether it was from a professional or somone I felt comfortable with. I would advise anyone else to do the same.

Diving Inside the Mindsets

Quick Write:
As of right now I think I have a growth mindset because yesterday I answered a couple of questions after reading chapter one and depending the way I answered the questions it showed me whether or not I had a growth mindset, which I did. Plus I think I'm almost always optimistic. I push through challenges and look at the brighter side of things.

Connection to the video:
Watch this video "Pushing Your Limits.
I connected with Rashuan the most because I believe that teachers know when your not doing something to the best of your ability so they push you even harder to get you there. I sing as well so the example that he used really connected with me. I know how much of a challenge it is to hit certain notes but as long as you keep working on it you will hit the note easily. I also believe that graduating high school is an accomplishment but not where you stop. You should continue moving forward and keep improving yourself.

Final Reflection:
One way teachers can show students that they believe in their potential is by constantly pushing them to their fullest potential and help them see their greatness by showing them the key points in their work that is great but if they put more effort it would have been even greater. Teachers can also show the student that they care and they know how much their capable of if they just try. But teachers can easily discourage students without knowing it. They might not pay attention to the student as much as the student would like, or the teacher may not acknowledge the fact that the student is trying to reach their full potential but they need someone to help guide the way. be the person. Students want to feel comfortable enough with the teacher so that if they do need that extra push they're there but some teachers might give off a certain vibe that the student doesn't like.

Quick Write:
In my opinion the most important claim about Mindset in chapter one is "You can change your mindset." The evidence to support this claim is the whole entire chapter because throughout the chapter she gives examples of her research, herself, and her experiences.

Fixed or Growth Mindset

Quick Write:
In my opinion Failure is when you fail at something you feel really strongly about. For example, A scientist is doing some type of experiment; He doesn't get the outcome he was hoping for so he gets a little discouraged but he tries again, different this time. Basically what I'm trying to say is that failure is temporary, it's just that bump in the road waiting for you to get over.

Quick Write:
Success is achieving the goals you set for yourself. Since success doesn't have the same meaning for everyone. For example, in my case success looks like graduating high school getting through college and eventually becoming a pediatrician.

Reflection:
I have a growth mindset when it comes to intelligence and personality. My answers haven't changed but they did become more clearer.
